Finding the Right Retail Home for an Established Salon Brand

Natural Shampoo Brand

Premium salon shampoo, conditioner and hair mask bottles arranged on a modern hotel bathroom vanity.

This natural shampoo brand came to us with advantages many emerging beauty brands spend years trying to build. It had a decade of salon credibility, an engaged Instagram following and a loyal customer base.

The company was ready to expand beyond its existing channels, but grocery distribution was not the right answer. The brand’s positioning, customer expectations and premium salon heritage required a more selective channel strategy.

The Strategy

We evaluated where the product would feel credible, desirable and appropriately positioned. Instead of forcing the brand into conventional grocery, we developed a multichannel strategy built around beauty, hospitality and controlled mass retail exposure.

  • Positioning the brand for premium beauty retail
  • Presenting the products to hotel and hospitality partners
  • Translating salon credibility into a compelling retail sales story
  • Protecting the brand’s premium identity while expanding distribution
  • Evaluating assortment, pricing and packaging by channel
  • Creating an exclusive SKU specifically for Target

The Result

The brand expanded into premium hotel chains, Sephora and Target.

Each channel served a different purpose. Premium hotels introduced the products through experience and trial. Sephora reinforced the brand’s beauty authority. Target provided broader consumer access through a carefully developed exclusive SKU.

Why It Worked

The strategy was based on fit, not simply store count. By choosing channels that supported the brand’s history, pricing and customer experience, we created a path into retail without weakening the identity that had made the company successful in the first place.
